A Lesson in .... Paisley

There are so many trends that go in and out of season, nothing however has had the same kind of staying power as the almighty paisley.

A vibrant, celebration of colour and patter, paisley can brighten up any outfit, and what could be more perfect for those hot summer nights?

Here is an example of paisley in the past, a paisley scarf design from 1850:

A more modern interpretation of the paisley print, Liberty of London's paisley bicycle for Target:

Here is the more recent King of Paisley, ETRO. They have been re-inventing the print for decades. Here are some of their prints, used in new and inventive ways:

And now, from 7 Downie St. a look that is perfect for the season and captures the bright and cheerful paisley attitude:

International Men of Style...

This is a really great example of how a really monochrome paisley can make a simple outfit pop. Check out some of our current collection:

The "Via Reggio" from our new collection would look perfect with a casual jean and linen jacket that are perfect for this hot and humid season. Consider grey jeans as an alternative to the regular dark blue, they are a must-have" for Summer 2011.

A Tie by any other name, would NOT smell as sweet...

A direct excerpt from GQ's Spring/Summer Style Preview:

"Let Your Tie Bloom
This isn't about pink-and-teal madras novelty neckwear that grabs attention at Cape Cod lawn parties. This is about a new generation of plaid ties that will add a refreshing hit of vibrant color to the suits you wear to the office week in and week out. The secret? Deeper, richer, darker colors."

This season it is all colour and more colour. Check out our post on the "Omana" shirt to see what I am talking about.

Here is a selection of ties from 7 Downie St. ties, and their associate labels that are perfectly "On Trend":

To Market to market we go...

Here is a detail shot of a button-down in our current Collection:

"The King" Shirt

Some of you might be wary of mixing patterns and multiple colours, but never has our design philosophy been more on trend than this Spring/Summer trend report. Let's take a look at some of GQ's look at the latest:

Thom Browne's often sets the bar for trends in menswear, and here at 7 Dowine St., we completely agree with his tone on tone pattern mixing. Try the "King" shirt for an instant update.

A previous collection....

Here is a shirt from an older collection....
The "705" from a few seasons back.

You can clearly see how this shirt was a pre-cursor to our future collection that came from the Cinq-Terre colour palette.

The Façonnable inspired stripes and colour palette are all related, but are clearly being updated. The evolution of a line, and a collection.

Coming soon to 7 Downie St.

People often ask us, where do we get our inspiration, and how do we develop a line.

The collection that we will shortly be sending into production and will be coming to a store near you was inspired by a number of different life experiences. This particular fabric story is a reflection of life in the 1970's (more on this major trend in women's and men's fashion) and a current trip to Italy.

The main body fabric is a play on a very old Façonnable fabric, but the coordinating detail fabric adds a punch of unexpected colour that has become the signature of the 7 Downie St. aesthetic.

This picture perfectly encapsulates where this colour palette came from.

Cinq-Terre in the Summer.

The red/oranges from the house's and the blues of the ocean really drove us to put this classic colour pairing back together for our new Collection.

Trends and the Omana Shirt

I wanted to take the time to take a loon at a new shirt from our latest collection:

The "Omana" shirt is now Sold Out, and here is why this particular shirt struck such a cord with buyers all over the world.

The Spring/Summer 2011 Runway shows embraced "hyper-colour" like never before. Brands that would only ever produce lines in white, beige, and black suddenly were sending models stomping down the runway in electric blue, orange and yellow. Here are some highlights from the Women's Couture and RTW shows. These trends helped set the standard for menswear.
